What if my currency is not available?
If the currency you need is not available, you’ll be pleased to know that as of the 15th July 2016 you can load Australian Dollars and pay no currency conversion fees when you use the card at your destination!
You will receive the Mastercard Cash Passport Spend Rate of the day and this rate is easily accessible in your online account – meaning you will no longer be left wondering what sort of rate you are getting and how much your item is costing. This recent update makes Cash Passport one of the best travel cards on the market, please contact us if you would like further information about using the card in a country where the currency is not available.
Using a FX card, debit or credit card for hotels, cruising or renting a car
When you check in at your hotel or hop on-board a cruise ship, you are often required to supply a credit or debit card in which the ship or hotel will put a hold on a certain amount of money for a security bond. These holds (pre-authorisations) can take up to 2 weeks to be released back into your account, meaning you don’t have access to that amount of money for that period of time.
Be careful of tying up your funds with payment pre-authorisations and provide an FX card that contains funds that you do not need immediately after checking out. You won’t actually be charged, it will just have a hold put on a certain amount of money – so a credit card can be handy in this circumstance. Make sure to let the hotel or cruise ship know that you do not wish to settle your bill with the same credit card – please contact us if you are unsure and a travel money specialist will be happy to assist you.
