Swiss Franc cash
The official currency of Switzerland is the Swiss Franc. You may be advised to take Euro’s with you, however converting to Euro’s first will generally cost you more in exchange fees. You might find that some businesses will quote prices and/or accept Euro’s as a form of payment, but be mindful of a potentially poor exchange rate – sticking to Swiss Franc can be easier to know how much you are spending. Cash is a travel essential and can save you time and money on many occasions. Having local currency on hand can:
- be handy for small purchases such as something to eat or drink
- give you an alternative method of payment in the event you are unable to pay with a card or you are charged an additional fee to pay with a card
- save you from having to pay high commission fees to exchange money in popular tourist areas when you arrive in Switzerland
